Students have classes in English enabling them to use it both in everyday situations and in business contexts, with emphasis on practice oriented language learning.

Apart from successful general language instruction, emphasis is put on the command of business language, paying particular attention to communications skills and intercultural skills.

The skills

English is one of the key qualifications provided at our school.

Understanding Listening A2 – B2
Reading
Speaking Spoken interaction
Spoken production
Writing

Spoken interaction means that students can speak with others in a conversation, whereas spoken production comprises the ability to express themselves for a longer time and in a coherent way. The letters A2 – B2 refer to the different levels as described in the Common European Framework for Languages.

HOW? – the methods

Problem-oriented assignments and action-oriented classes. g

These are the key aspects significantly emphasized in the new curriculum, but not so really new to teachers of languages.

Team work – group work and role plays

Apart from independent work also team work, group work and role plays are practised in classes in order to prepare the student for his/her future professional life. Skills like listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing are practiced in an integrative way. Grammar is not an end in itself.

Cross subject activities – learning firms and training firms – ÜFA

The co-operation with teachers of other subjects, in particular those of business-related subjects is part of our practise. Especially in the subject “Practise Firm” the foreign languages are actively involved and support students in their work.

E-learning

State of the art IT equipment and laptop classes from the third to the fifth form of the Business College provide excellent preconditions to make use of e-teaching and e-learning methods which should encourage students to learn independently and responsibly and pursue lifelong learning.

Language Weeks

Benefits of foreign language weeks:

  • experiencing other ways of thinking and lifestyles by making contacts with other people,
  • applying their foreign language skills confidently and improving them,
  • developing their own personality

 New curriculum:

What is essentially new?
  • It is learning outcome-oriented and competence-oriented.
  • It moves the focus from teaching content (input) to learning outcomes.
  • “Learning outcomes” are statements about what a learner knows, understands and is able to do after completing a learning process. They are defined as knowledge, skills and competences.
  • Subjects are put together in clusters. English is part of the cluster “Languages”
  • Cross subject teaching is promoted.

Content is clearly defined and divided in semesters. Students from the 10th to the 13th grade get semester certificates.
